Sewing for Boys: Fire Engine Shorts

Des is all about any kind of car, motorcycle, tractor or truck these days.  His favorite book right now is this huge board book that we have to read every night before he goes to bed.  Even I’m learning all the names to these farm trucks and construction trucks…

Sewing for boys used to be difficult, but now there’s all sorts of cute fabric out there for these little guys.  I found this fire engine Riley Blake fabric and knew Des would love it!  Let me tell you, he thought he was pretty cool with his fire engine shorts and fireman boots.  He stomped around the yard until it got too hot to stay outside and had the best time playing in the dirt and stomping out fire…ants.  Apparently, that’s what you do with fireman boots.

The pattern is from Calia Made, and she has this super easy tutorial to go along with it.  I didn’t have to make any changes to the pattern and the size was perfect.  He’s growing so fast though, he really needs another pair in the next size.  Thankfully, summer lasts until about November here, so a few more pairs of shorts should be fine.
