When Kate turned two this year, Gramma aka Evy from A Bit of Stitch made her a “ballerina” dress.  It’s not your typical ballerina dress with the tulle and twirl, (don’t worry – she has tons of those too…) but it’s a sweet lawn dress with blue flowers on it to match her baby blue eyes.  She even made a matching dress for Kate’s little dolly with matching bows and everything!  Of course, Kate loved it and had to put it on immediately.

The lawn fabric is from Robert Kaufman’s London Calling collection. It’s such a beautiful fabric and feels wonderful!

Can you believe the amazing details that Evy put into the dress?  She used her Baby Lock Sashiko to create a smocked bodice.  She calls this technique sassy pleating, and you can do the same on your Sashiko by flip-stitching cording on top of sassy pleats as you pleat.  Takes a bit of concentration and more time, but looks amazing!

She used a long-hoarded bit of vintage tatting to edge the neckline and pocket tops.  The pockets were even made in the hoop; so much easier that way!

Keep your eye out on her website because she has plans to make this design into a set, soon hopefully!
