Coyote Blog Hop and GIVEAWAY!

Coyote skirt (12 of 1)

The lovely folks over at Hawthorne Threads asked me to join their Coyote Blog Hop!  I enjoyed working with their Norwegian Wood collection and jumped at the chance to create a project with their new Coyote collection!  Hawthorne Threads designs and digitally prints their own fabric collections in their store in Upstate New York, and Coyote is their newest collection.  Inspired by their trip to Death Valley, the collection features cacti, coyotes, feathers and several coordinating prints with desert themed designs.  I had such a hard time choosing which fabrics to use, because they’re all gorgeous!

Eventually, I decided to go with these lovely seven fabrics, so I could showcase how pretty this collection looks!  I just love these colors!  The little coyotes and feathers are perfect, and I’m totally going to need some more Stitch Floral to add to my stash!  Thanks for making such beautiful fabrics, you guys!

It’s been a while since I’ve made any girly outfits and really wanted to turn these pretty fabrics into a skirt.  I asked one of Desmond’s cute little friends if she’d be my model, and I’m so glad she agreed!  Isn’t she just adorable in her Coyote skirt!

I cut my seven fat quarters into strips that were 5.5 inches wide and 14 inches long.  Using my serger, I sewed all the strips together along the long edge to form a rectangle.  From there, I used Dana’s tutorial on how to make a basic skirt.  The skirt needed a bit more flair, so I added a ruffle and bias tape around the bottom.  If you’re going to go girly, go all out!  What a fun, quick project!
